The SSC Environmental Working Group is made up of representatives from each of the SSC resident agencies and contractors. The representatives meet with the NASA Environmental staff quarterly to discuss new programs, projects, and resolve problems relative to the overall environmental program. These representatives work together to share information regarding changes in environmental regulations and promote the continuity of the environmental compliance program. |

NASA takes an active role in the Local Emergency Planning Commission (LEPC) promoting the success of the Commission. The meetings are conducted on a quarterly basis and comprised of local industry representatives who operate near the SSC Buffer Zone. Although participation is driven by a "Community Right-To-Know" requirement, NASA is committed to community safety and protection of the environment. |

NASA is a member of the Hancock County Community Development Committee and the Greenways Subcommittee with a focus of implementing a strategy to preserve the natural and cultural resources of Hancock County for residents to enjoy now and years into the future. NASA is also a member of the Pearl River County Development Association to assist in monitoring the future development and integration of economic growth and natural resources preservation in Pearl River County. |

NASA strives to keep the public informed about environmental activities at SSC. Unto that end, NASA established an informational repository at the Hancock County Public Library to provide information about the SSC clean up program. NASA informs the public of new endeavors at SSC by publishing public notices in local newspapers and holding public meetings if necessary. Additionally, local newspapers routinely publish articles regarding SSC activities. |
