Hazardous Waste Management

Several of the solid and liquid wastes generated at SSC are considered hazardous wastes. The management of these wastes includes identifying, collecting, storing, and transporting these wastes off-site for proper disposal at pre-approved, permitted facilities. Employees who work with hazardous wastes are certified in hazardous waste operations and emergency response, and are instructed to properly accumulate, label, and date their wastes. For NASA and its on-site contractors, when the specified waste quantity limit has been reached, a completed Waste Removal Form should be submitted to the Stennis Operating Contractor Environmental Services for timely removal of the wastes. For resident agencies, the Stennis Operating Environmental Contractor will either coordinate for the disposal of the waste, or tell the generator how to dispose of the waste themselves.
