ALLIGATOR CONTROL
It is the policy of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to remove alligators only when they are a nuisance to humans. Do not feed the alligators, causing them to be less afraid of humans. Should an alligator need to be removed from an area, contact Site Security at x3636 or the Natural Resource Management Team at x3155, 601-416-4320 (cell).
WILD HOG CONTROL
The number of feral pigs within the Fee Area also poses a potential safety hazard to workers. To help control the population, hog traps will be used. Report any problem with wild hogs to the NASA Natural Resource Management Team at x3155, 601-416-4320 (cell). They in turn will make the necessary arrangements through the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
ABANDONED AND INJURED WILDLIFE CONTROL
If abandoned and injured wildlife is found (does not include domestic pets like cats or dogs), then contact the Natural Resource Management Team at x3155, 601-416-4320 (cell). That office will contact the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Nature Preservation Society.
DOMESTIC PET CONTROL
Hunting season is usually the only time a problem might arise involving a domestic pet when a hunting dog wanders into the area. To report domestic animal problems, contact Site Security at x3636.
RODENT CONTROL
If a problem with Rodents occurs in your area, contact the Trouble Desk at x3293. They will contact our current pest control contractor. At Stennis Space Center an Integrated Pest Control (IPC) concept is utilized. This concept focuses on keeping our work areas uncluttered and removing items that are food sources for pests thereby reducing our reliance on pesticides.
BIRD AND BAT CONTROL
If nesting birds or bats create a problem in your area, contact the FOS Trouble Desk at x3293. They in turn will contact the current pest control contractor.
PANTHER / BEAR SIGHTINGS
The Natural Resource Management Team at x3155, 601-416-4320 (cell) should be contacted to properly record sightings of bears or panther/cougar species. If physical evidence of the sighting is present, such as a track or paw print, a cast will be made. The cast will be sent to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.
