Groundwater is used as the drinking water source at SSC. The site-wide drinking water is a licensed public water supply that meets every aspect of the Safe Drinking Water Act, and is monitored regularly to ensure its quality. Drinking water comes from water-bearing zones about 1,400 feet deep and is drawn from three potable water wells on site. Groundwater from three shallower, industrial wells is also available for use for rocket testing cooling.

Three wells are used to supply potable water to SSC. They range in depth from 1434 to 1524 feet. The wells, pumps, chlorinators, elevated storage tanks, automatic controls, and a distribution system supply the support and test areas with water for drinking, sanitation, and fire protection. The site-wide drinking water is certified by the Mississippi Department of Health, and meets every aspect of the Safe Drinking Water Act. This water is monitored regularly to ensure its quality.
